Y. (WENY) -- One person is dead after a crash at the intersection of Clemens Center Parkway and Broadway in Southport. The crash happened around 7 pm Monday.The Chemung County Sheriff's Office says the accident is still under investigation. There's no word yet on how many people were injured, or the severity of the injuries.The name of the deceased victim is not being released at this time.Police blocked off the intersection for at least an hour as crews loaded one person into the helicopter.WENY News will keep you updated to this story as it develops.     ... And many are still trying to get back on their feet. That's why the Salvation Army has set up camp in Nichols."Just Saturday we had about two-hundred people come in and yesterday we had about one-hundred and fifty," says Michael Schwartz, Divisional Disaster Director at the Salvation Army.Volunteers have been on scene providing assistance since last week when flooding first began."Whether it's helping them with food or replacement clothing, or even clean up supplies to be able to help them clean up their homes and get back into them, we're here again today, doing just that," says Schwartz.That includes cleanup kits--with mops, buckets and other supplies to clean up damaged homes. They're also providing meals, hygiene products and gift cards to Salvation Army stores.     But it's more than just immediate assistance. They're also offering long-term help. The organziation is providing emotional support and contacts for anyone who may need help elsewhere. "A lot of the individuals [here] just [went] through a flood back in 2011," says Schwartz. "[A lot of] the same houses have flooded. You know, if you've already been through a traumatic event just to be retraumatized--it's something people do want to take to somebody about and we've brought in people who are trained to do so."And that goes for anyone, whether they be volunteers, first responders or victims of the flood."We're trying to do what we can to try and alleviate the suffering, and be a listening ear," says Schwartz. "Also try to get them back on their feet and provide them with information to empower them so they know what to do next time this happens."Volunteers will be at the Community Care Network building in Nichols for as long as there is a need. Supplies and support are available from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm every day of the week. ... (WENY-TV)
